I would have classified this novel as a young adult because of the simplistic one-dimensional writing style....except I can't even recommend it to young people because of the adult content.

As a fully cooked adult, I found the story rather dull and repetitive. Throw-away people were introduced and killed off. Almost every character ended up in the hospital. Confusing legends were over-explained (or barely explained) causing me to not give a darn in the end. I finally stopped reading at 94% from sheer boredom.

My advice for readers of legendary horror is to get a paperback copy of "The Ceremonies " by T.E.D. Klein (it is not yet available on Kindle). You'll want to read this first-rate horror novel many times!....but "Faerie Tales" goes straight into my So So collection on my Kindle.

Faerie Tale A Novel of Terror and Fantasy Raymond E Feist 9780586071397 Books Reviews

A fantastic book with a great story. Well worth the reading of you enjoy supernatural fantasy. And this one would be among the first of that genre.
This is one of my all time favorite books. I read it at least one a year, and every time I catch something new. It makes me yearn for an encounter with Faeries, I have no doubt they’re real, and that Raymond E. Feist writes from experience!
I first read this book in the late 80's. At the time I had an office in the basement of my house. Most evenings I was left alone to work and read, while my family watched television upstairs. I recall the story being so well written and the characters so real, that I found myself at times looking around after 'seeing something out of the corner of my eye' and thinking how much the story was affecting me.
Now it's 30 some odd years later and I just finished re-reading Faerie Tale and I find that the story has not diminished in any way.
This book can make one wonder if the world is really the way it seems.
The story was very good and the characters were relatable. Some aspects were a little disturbing to me but it was suspenseful and interesting even through the typographical errors.
Doesn’t anyone use a proof reader? Really error after error.
4.5 stars
This is the first book I've read by Raymond E. Feist and I must say I enjoyed it. As a fan of the fae, I'd say he does a great job of creating a creepy world that is vivid, melancholic, and disturbing. He takes his time in the beginning of the book. No rushing. Sets up the characters and the normal world with twinges of the odd and unsettling. It took me a long time to read the book just because I haven't had a lot of time to read in the past month, but I always looked forward to getting back to the Hastings and finding out what was up with the weirdness in their world. For me, the nice mix of characters in the family contributed to the plot, but Sean and Patrick are the stars. I'd definitely nominate them as the main characters for a sequel. I also liked Barney.

This is a darker version of faerie, alongside a more normal world, if that makes sense.
I first read this book back in the early 80s and I thought it was a good read then... Recently I reread this amazing book. Feist is a wonderful writer, and fills his stories with rich and layered content. Love the dark take on the fairy story, but then again, how else can you take fairies.
Old fairy tales were scary too. Not always a happy ending. Not always with heroic wins. Actions had consequences, and few things were fair.
This is an old fashioned fairy tale, where humans are unwitting victims and pawns, to magical plots and power plays.
Somehow both delightful and creepy, it's a hearty helping of good writing.
I would have classified this novel as a young adult because of the simplistic one-dimensional writing style....except I can't even recommend it to young people because of the adult content.
